Lies About Evolution

This post is a direct rebuttal against the claims made by Christwire.org.

The first challenge this website offers is this:  If evolution is true, and mankind evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?  On the surface, this seems like a sound argument, but that's only if you don't invest any thought into it and if you don't know anything at all about evolution.  So, here is a short lesson on how evolution works.

Evolution works on the principle of natural selection.  Life forms are either successful or they are not.  They either are able to reproduce or they are not.  If a life form is born/hatched/spawned or otherwise produced that has no ability to feed itself, it will shortly die before it has a chance to reproduce and that particular mutation goes unnoticed.

However, if a life form is born with a mutation that allows it to eat a new kind of food, including one already consumed, then that life form has a much higher chance of survival, and thus will have a much higher chance to reproduce and pass on this new trait.  These types of traits are not always passed on, but when they are, that particular subspecies or species is generally more successful.

When considering primates, the genetic alteration did not suddenly happen to all of them at once like in the movie X-Men II.  Instead, it was probably just one primate who was born with a more-human characteristic. Whatever change was made allowed that primate to be more successful and allowed it to pass on its genetic mutation to some offspring.  Since all of the primates in the entire world didn't all live in the same very small geographic area, and that one primate didn't mate with each of them (and since there are males and females and they can not produce offspring with members of their own sex) then of course the others kept mating and producing more of their own kind.

It is likely that a profound enough change developed in a population of one group which caused that group to separate from the rest of their own accord, or to be summarily exiled by the rest of the population.  This would allow this new species to breed in seclusion instead of mixing back in with the unchanged primates.  If you do this enough times over enough years, the differences from the original can be profound.

This is a very easy explanation of why there are still monkeys and at the same time there are humans.  The argument that Christwire.org brings to bear against Atheists is weak, ignorant and worthless.

Well done, Christwire.org for helping provide me with more evidence against your cause!

  1. You have not provided evidence, rather a theory. Evidence is established facts, theory is nothing more than a guess that has yet to be proven.
I do agree with you on one point and that is that Christwire.org has not done a good job arguing their side of things. Even as a Christian I also believe in evolution. However, there are two types, macro and micro. Macro is the type you theorize on in which one species transforms into another. Micro-evolution, which has been proven and therefore is the only type I accept as truth, is evolution that occurs within a species. The Galapagos Islands are a good example of this. You have several variations of the same species of animals that vary from island to island based upon the terrain and food sources.

  2. I also wanted to add that I have previously not heard of Christwire.org and based upon that article alone I would not consider them a reliable source. Of course I'm sure they give you plenty to write about. But it seems radical and uninformed.

  3. Agreed - they probably were too easy of a target, but a target nonetheless.

  4. Christwire.org is like the Onion. Humor. Poe.

Poe's Law is an axiom suggesting that it's difficult to distinguish between parodies of religious fundamentalism (or, more generally, parodies of any crackpot or extremist belief) and its genuine proponents, since they both seem equally insane.

  5. While that would seem to be the case, I simply found a site that stated most, if not all, of the excuses I have personally witnessed Christians spewing every day. The site served as an aggregate of Christian platitudes.

  6. Natasha,

In science there are very few "facts" since new information might, and some times does, prove an idea false. Further, a theory is not a guess. A hypothesis is an educated guess and it becomes a theory once it has been tested and proven true.

What CA is trying to do here is give people a basic understanding of what evolution is, since 99% of people who DENY evolution can't even DEFINE it.
