Christians all over the globe are denouncing "religious extremism" in all of its forms. But what, exactly, is an extreme form of Christianity.
I think everyone can agree that any religion that advocates murder, incest, rape or other vicious crimes is extreme, but what does the Bible say?
First, the Bible says that homosexuals, children who cheek their parents, anyone who works on the Sabbath and many, many more must be put to death. When did this stop being enforced? Christian apologists will say that Christ came and changed all of that. But the Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. So, if God changed his mind, then the result of changing his mind must have been more perfect than the original, which means that god messed up the first time. Another case of "God said, "Oops!" (see the post on this blog by the same name).
The picture at the top of this blog is a book written by Michael and Debi Pearl. Just in case you haven't heard the story yet, a Christian couple, following the advice of this book, beat their children. Now, I'm not some kind of wishy-washy parent who thinks you should always just say "no" to a child and hope for the best, but these parents beat one of their children literally to death [link]. That's right, they beat their child so long (hours upon hours) that the child died as a result. This couple did so based on their Christian beliefs.
Before anyone posts a reply stating that they weren't "true Christians", keep this in mind... God advocates killing children. He did so (or allowed to happen) probably a million times. This happened when Moses was born, when Jesus was born, during the plagues against Egypt and though the child wasn't a baby, Isaac was almost killed by his own father, Abraham. So - these parents are one of you. You're just too wishy-washy to do it.
Again, I'm glad I'm not a Christian.
